Elisabeth Dmitrieff. (1851-1910). Russian born feminist. Co-founder of the First International. Reported on the Paris Commune for Karl Marx. Acted in short plays to raise awareness of the events. Dedicated her life to political activity and organising co-operative workshops. Co-founded the Womens Union in 1871. Forced to return to Russia, she married a political prisoner who had been condemned to death, later reduced to internal exile. Elisabeth went to Siberia with him and died as a consequence.
